Guided experiences in the South West

We are based in Dorset, so the South West is our home turf and where our coverage runs deepest. The Jurassic Coast is prime coasteering and sea-cliff climbing ground, Dartmoor adds gorge walking and wild swimming inland, and the whole coastline is made for guided sea adventures. If you already walk our local trails, a guided session is the natural next step, the same coast you know from the clifftop, seen from the water or the rock instead.

Why book a guided experience?

Because the guide is the whole point. For anything involving cold water, tides, waterfalls or exposed rock, an experienced local instructor is the difference between a good day and a genuinely dangerous one.

  • Qualified and insured providers. Every experience in the directory is run by a professional provider. Guides are trained in first aid and emergency procedures and know the local conditions.
  • Kit is provided. For water activities that means a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet. For climbing it means ropes, harness and helmet. You do not need to own any of it to start.
  • They read the conditions. Providers assess weather, sea state and water levels before every session and will move or cancel if it is not safe. That local judgement is what you are paying for.
  • All abilities catered for. Most sessions run from first-timers up. The guide scales the difficulty, the jumps and the pace to the group.

Outdoor experiences make a good gift

An experience beats another bit of kit for most people, and a guided adventure is an easy gift to get right. Coasteering, a gorge day or a guided climb gives someone a proper day out with all the kit and safety handled, whether they are seasoned or have never tried it. Booking is done through Adventuro, so availability, vouchers and gift options are handled on their side. Browse by activity and region above, then follow the link through to sort the booking.

Frequently asked questions

What are guided outdoor experiences?
Guided outdoor experiences are outdoor activities run by qualified, insured instructors, such as coasteering, gorge walking, wild swimming, guided walks and rock climbing. The guide provides the safety kit, reads the conditions and scales the activity to your ability, so you can try something new without owning the gear or the expertise.
Do I book on Coast & Fell?
No. You browse and filter the experiences here, then click through to our partner Adventuro to book. Adventuro handles the booking and payment directly with the provider. We earn a small commission when you book through our links, at no extra cost to you.
Do I need any experience?
For most activities, no. Coasteering, gorge walking, wild swimming, taster climbs and abseiling all run sessions for complete beginners, with the guide controlling the pace and difficulty. Mountaineering and some winter or graded activities do expect existing hill experience, which the listing will make clear.
What activities can I book?
The directory covers coasteering, gorge walking and canyoning, wild swimming, guided walks and hikes, outdoor rock climbing, abseiling and mountaineering, spread across the UK.
Where in the UK are experiences available?
Coverage is UK-wide, with the strongest choice in South West England (Dorset, Cornwall, Devon and Somerset), followed by North West England, Scotland and Wales. Popular areas include the Jurassic Coast, Dartmoor, the Lake District, Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire and the Scottish Highlands.
How long does a session last?
Most standard sessions run two to four hours. Guided walks, climbs and mountain-skills days are typically half-day or full-day. The exact duration is shown on each listing.
Can I buy an experience as a gift?
Yes. Guided experiences make a strong gift, with the kit and safety handled for the recipient. Gift and voucher options are managed by Adventuro, so browse by activity and region here and follow the link through to arrange it.
What does it cost?
Prices vary by activity, provider and region, with shorter group sessions such as gorge walking often starting around £40 per person. Current pricing is shown on each Adventuro listing before you book.
